Yolanda & Chris
After losing everything in a devastating house fire, Yolanda and Chris and their family found themselves without a home or any of their belongings. Luckily, with the support of school leaders and a generous donation from a Sanibel Church, the family was able to find a wonderful new house. But the family of five was lacking the most basic items, and essential pieces of furniture and décor, to make their new house feel like a real home.
While following the necessary steps to protect and prioritize the health and safety of the family, volunteers, and staff meant we couldn’t get inside the house, this didn’t stop us from doing our work. We just did things a little differently. We worked with Yolanda and Chris through phone calls, pictures, FaceTime, put pencil to paper, and came up with a design plan to accommodate their needs. We scheduled safe and socially distanced meetings with Yolanda and Chris and to drop off furniture. Thankfully Yolanda and Chris are both super handy and were able to put together many of the pieces of furniture themselves!
We were grateful to Yolanda and Chris for their optimism, flexibility and kindness while we worked with them on their new home. And we couldn’t do any of this with out the wonderful support of our volunteers and donors, who were key to making this project happen. A huge THANK YOU to all of you! To find out how you can volunteer, or to make a donation to support your local family on our next project, we encourage to read more about how you can help here.
